Brief History

The Bonny Graduates Forum (BGF) started as a pressure group of Bonny indigenes who were young graduates to demand positions in the multinationals that operate in Bonny. The group was born at the inception of the construction of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) plant in 1995 due to the marginalization of the graduates of Bonny extraction in recruitments. Likeminds came together and deliberated on the way forward and after that all-important meeting, a body known as the Bonny Graduates Forum (BGF) emerged with Engr. (Dr) Hilkiah Asinyetogha Igoni and Hon. Aye Pepple as the leaders.

The group was persecuted but stood strong until some of its members were arrested and incarcerated. Their demands led to the only known protest in Bonny that took the intervention of the then President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to personally come down to Bonny to intervene. That opened the way for the first and only Bonny manager in the NLNG, Amaopu-Orubo Siene Alwell-Brown and a few other graduates that were later recruited through a special scheme - the Bonny Graduates Recruitment Scheme. The last was in 2007.

The Bonny Graduates Forum (BGF) has had the following people as leaders, after the original founders: Engr. (Dr) Hilkiah Asinyetogha Igoni, Engr. Idawari Hart, Engr. Nathaniel LongJohn, Engr. Ipiriala Jumbo, and Engr. Frederick Ezekiel-Hart. It is presently being led by Engr. Awoiyeala Allison.
